Located in the rich, historical Surry Hills, this project is inspired by the tapestry of contrasting narratives in the Sydney suburb. The hotel is named after the Brisbane Street Resumption of 1929, an iconic movement in the history of the suburb. With a nod to the rag trade, this boutique combines the unique design elements of the fashion industry and Celtic influences from the working-class Irish population of the 1920s. In particular, Chinese Qing Dynasty clothing was used as design inspiration as I noticed a surprising correlation between the map from the 1920s and the silhouette of the clothing. I created a fusion of these two design elements to result in a space that reflects the complex history of Surry Hills and its many changes. However, the hotel remains modern and can be enjoyed by a variety of different audiences.
A modern oasis on the harbour, this house provides the perfect escape from a busy life. This home is designed for a young family, who have returned to Australia after working overseas for several years. As one of the clients enjoys entertaining, the outdoor terrace is designed with that in mind, complete with a built-in pizza oven. The home serves as a tranquil oasis, not far from the busy CBD.
This renovation project is about sustainable choices for a conscious client. The brief includes a new staircase, kitchen and combined bathroom and laundry. The finishes and fixtures in this home were the main focus of my design, with organic and natural elements incorporated to reflect the client’s values. A tile feature wall and cabinetry in the bathroom is inspired by Moroccan design, as the client had expressed interest in the style.
This is a home for a downsizing professor, with a love for mid-century modern details. Designed to accommodate her lifestyle art, this house is re-designed to emphasise its natural beauty and provide functionality for the client. Intended as her final home for her upcoming retirement, a self-contained unit is included for future care needs. The professor has an extensive collection and furniture, so a gallery space is designed on the lower level of the home to complement the existing house. The design aims to enhance the mid-century details and create a space that is comfortable for the aging client.
