Elena karmazina
“Design for the present, with an awareness of the past, for a future which is essentially unknown” – Norman Foster My journey as an Interior designer started in 2003 when I graduated the Design Academy in Moscow. After having worked in the industry there for a few years, I migrated to Australia and am currently employed as a casual at Yvette Philips Interior Design. My other degree and experience are in science (geology) and give me a deeper understanding of the behaviour of building materials, as well as what lies underneath the words “sustainable and green” design. I believe being sustainable, ethical & socially responsible is as important as being creative and technically savvy. Considering interior is a part of built environment I often seek inspiration in larger scale works and refer to our fellow architects. I admire Norman Foster's design principles that include adaptive reuse, flexibility, and social values. He regenerates historical buildings, integrating accessible space and openness, blurring the boundary between inside and outside spaces. I follow his steps, taking full advantage of the latest technology in search for great energy efficiency, and excellent integration with the environment.
