CREATURES OF THE NIGHT
A playground for the LGBTQ+ community, this boutique hotel offers a complete party experience, from pre-club pampering to post-club after-hours.
Inspired by the flamboyant Icon- Leigh Bowery, the design references Bowery’s use of bold, block colours, unconventional materials, and curvaceous silhouettes. Infused with his fabulous use of exaggeration and glamour- the hope is to create a house for hedonism and freedom.
Inspired by the raw grit and lively chaos of 1980’s New York, infused with subtle references to Fukinsei and Kokou. This styling proposal sought to create a sense of harmony, contrasted with artful eclecticism.
This was achieved by playing with combining contradictory elements- vintage and contemporary, natural and man-made, rich and muted colours, which are reminiscent of the diversity in the New York creative scene. The curation of pieces was guided by the Japanese principles of asymmetry and inimitable timeworn beauty, as well as linking everything through the use of line, repetition and colour.
Inspired by the clients profession- art dealers, the design was a fusion of contradictory ideas informed by the intrigue inherent in art, and exploring how space can articulate authority. It aimed to create a clear delineation between public and private, along with showcasing their art collection through bold, neutral architectural elements.
As the existing building was an empty shell, it provided freedom to create a conceptually driven spatial layout.
