Showcase of TAFE NSW DCE Interior Design Graduates
My journey started as a kid, glued to renovation shows and loudly debating with the TV, convinced I could spot the real design flaws they missed. (Sorry, TV hosts!) Now, with a tape measure and a dash of stubborn optimism, I work to bring a bit of magic to spaces that tell their own stories—old buildings with creaky floors, crooked corners, and plenty of ‘character’ included. Each project feels like a new novel, full of twists and surprises and that one rogue lamp that insists on tilting, no matter where I put it. Life’s way too short for dull spaces, so I’m on a mission to make every corner feel special.
Lumen Vale Retreat is a tranquil haven where urban life meets the serenity of nature. Rooted in wellness, sustainability, and craftsmanship, it offers guests an immersive, personalised experience. Rooms draw inspiration from natural elements, blending the calming energy of forests, the warmth of sunlight, the soothing resonance of sound, and the healing power of herbs. Guests can customise their stay with curated scents, lighting, and schedules tailored to their needs.
Beyond the rooms, vibrant communal spaces foster connection and relaxation. The café, bar, and restaurant serve locally inspired, sustainably crafted meals, while the rooftop garden provides a lush oasis for dining and unwinding amidst breathtaking city views.
Red Dragonfly is a vibrant, yet serene residential retreat designed for a DJ who seeks both inspiration and relaxation in their personal space. The concept blends bold energy with peaceful sanctuary, reflecting the owner’s creative lifestyle while providing a calming refuge. The design integrates dynamic, modern elements with nature-inspired features, creating an atmosphere that encourages both creativity and rest.
The space flows effortlessly between work and leisure, with soundproofed areas for music production and intimate corners for quiet reflection. Inspired by the fluid, transformative nature of the red dragonfly, the interior features rich, bold colours and sleek, contemporary furnishings, complemented by organic textures that evoke a sense of harmony.
Fashion designer Kym Ellery is renovating her Mid-Century Modern home in Cheltenham, NSW, to create a nurturing sanctuary for her growing family. The project balances preserving the home’s timeless architectural charm with enhancing its functionality for modern family life. Kym envisions a space where creativity and comfort coexist, tailoring the design to meet the needs of both her professional and personal worlds.
The renovation will introduce child-friendly features that prioritise safety while maintaining the home’s stylish essence. Additionally, a self-contained suite will be created for a live-in carer, blending privacy and practicality with the home’s cohesive design.
