The final project is specifically crafted to offer sustainable solutions that cater to the needs of refugees in New South Wales (NSW), fostering a profound sense of belonging and safety as they navigate life in a new country. The choice of Lancer Barracks in Parramatta was deliberate due to its central location and the presence of communal buildings and a spacious courtyard. This heritage site serves as an ideal canvas, offering abundant opportunities to develop and implement programs aimed at enriching the lives of refugees. Among these initiatives are childcare facilities, educational programs, diverse workshops, and accessible libraries, all thoughtfully designed to support and integrate refugees into their new community.
The conception of this workplace project was tailored to meet the collaborative requirements of a creative design firm while embracing the principles of biophilia. Grounded in the core values of the design firm, the concept was derived with utmost consideration, ensuring a seamless integration of their ethos. Reflecting the distinct identity of each sector within the firm, the workspace encapsulates a varied ambiance and aesthetic, curated within an open-plan design. This approach fosters an environment where diverse elements harmoniously coexist, stimulating creativity, collaboration, and a deep connection to nature throughout the workspace.
This project looks at adaptive reuse of a church in Oberon into a residential space tailored for three individuals. Extending the church, a suspended cubic glass structure was introduced, amplifying the overall user experience. Each cubic box serves as a private studio space, meticulously designed to cater to the distinct needs of the residents. Emphasising a vibrant and playful design aesthetic, the project prioritised the use of diverse materials to infuse the space with a sense of joy and colour. This innovative approach not only revitalised the church’s essence but also offered a personalised and lively environment, harmonising functionality with creativity in the residential space.
