RESIDENTIAL - WOOLLOOMOOLOO WAREHOUSE

The brief for this project was to develop this warehouse into a mixed-use residential space with an integrated workplace. Functional needs included capacity to host dinner parties, informal workspaces, and usage as a venue for workshops. The concept, ‘Alive and Kicking,’ explored the dynamic liveliness of a city, inspired by New York City fire escapes. This brought about a playful street-art inspired urban crash pad, featuring industrial elements with pops of bright colour. The kitchen takes inspiration from the bright yellow of roadway markings, and the office space features a commissioned wall mural which can be used as an exhibition space with local artists. A 70’s inspired conversation pit provides further venue and entertainment opportunities.

COMMERCIAL - GEORGE ST LOBBY & CAFE

The brief for this project was to reinvigorate the lobby of a commercial building that houses an interior design firm, a furniture showroom, and a café. In redesigning the lobby, vertical circulation and existing café, the branding and design elements took inspiration from a selected designer, Marc Newson. A furniture display window is highlighted at the front and upon stepping into the lobby, a statement bench with feature lighting welcomes all users of the space. Care was given to noise mitigation and management of ambience, for instance, with sound-absorbing acoustic panels in a geometric ceiling design.

COMMERCIAL - 'THE CRAFTSMAN' POP-UP

The brief for this project was for a pop-up providing a contemporary and innovative brand experience – an off-site extension of its associated boutique hotel. This pop-up space furthered the branding concept of ‘The Craftsman’ hotel through being developed as a multi-use space: for featured artists and artisans hosting masterclasses or exhibitions, for hotel guests for scheduled activities, and as an event space. Despite its small footprint, this easily-transformable pop-up features a large activity area, glass elevator, a gallery or studio space, and a hydroponic rooftop garden. The façade is a handmade art installation made from reclaimed wood, and the rest of the pop-up similarly emphasizes durable natural materials.

COMMERCIAL - 'THE CRAFTSMAN' BOUTIQUE HOTEL

The brief for this project was to convert a warehouse into a boutique hotel in Sydney’s inner west, creating a scheme aligned with the hotel’s brand positioning to enhance the guest experience. The project scope focussed on guest accommodation and public/commercial spaces. The Craftsman Hotel’s concept emphasises an appreciation of handmade creations, ranging from art to food to crafts. Guests are invited to ‘stay and learn’, to broaden their horizons with new and unique craft experiences, such as masterclasses taught by artisans in residency. Commissioned artworks are featured throughout the hotel as well as in Café Imprint, which serves a selection of handmade foods throughout the day. In keeping with the ethos of the brand, the materiality prioritises durable natural materials.
